Gunning for more glamour

The tag of glamdoll sits well on Namitha. The tall, buxom girl from Surat has become popular in Tamil cinema.

Not averse to glamour roles, Namitha is now part of movies starring biggies such as Vijay, Ajit and Silambarasan.

An avid reader of books and a fitness freak Namitha says, ' when I am not shooting, I spend my time either at the gym doing my workouts or reading books'.

Born in a family of entrepreneurs, Namitha won a beauty pageant show, which gave her the confidence to try her skill before the camera.

Namitha started her career with Engal Anna in Tamil followed by Aye, Chanakya among others.

Happy being branded as a glamour actress, Namitha says, ' I am satisfied with that tage. People come to theatres to see me. And I am recognised as a crowd-puller'.

Movies up on her sleeves include Ajith starrer Billa, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan with Vijay and Kettavan opposite Silambarasan. She has been signed to act in a Kannada movie with Darshan.

In a candid interview to News Today, Namitha speaks about her aspirations.

Q: What are the emotional aspects involved in doing glamour roles, since you are seen only as an 'show pony'?

A: I am very happy, I derive satisfaction from doing such roles and at the end of the day, I am elated to have done justice to them.

I strongly believe that even by doing minuscule roles, I can garner the attention of movie buffs. However my roles in movies including Aye and Chanakya had more scope for me to showcase my skill.

Q: What the essential differences between Tamil and Gujarati audiences in appreciating artistry?

A: Be it anywhere, the passion for arts and crafts remains the same. Creativity and imagination are welcomed anywhere in the globe. Arts and entertainment have no boundaries thanks to technological innovation.

Q: How do you adjust yourself working in different languages?

A: Language is no barrier. I understand my character, assimilate it and do my homework before the shooting.

I am acting in Telugu, Kannada and Tamil movies simultaneously. For me, language has never been a problem.

Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a celebrity?

A: I enjoy recognition. People flock to see an actress. I feel such attention would help me my bit for society.

On the other hand, I cannot be part of all social get-together due to my celebrity status.

Q: How do you unwind yourself from your busy work schedule?

A: When I am not shooting, I spend my time at the gym or reading books.
